Welcome to our New Home!
Saturday 3rd August saw the official open day of the ‘new’ Flipz Gymnastics in Whitchurch!
Having originally started in Brampton Primary School, then onto JKHS in 2016; they secured their first dedicated gym in Millpond Street 3 years later. This latest move sees the club expand further into a much larger space with all four pieces of WA gymnastics equipment and some new additions including a T-trainer, parallel bars and the overall favourite – a Tumbl Trak! The gym also has a lovely new cafe from where parents and carers are able to watch the training sessions on a large screen.
The open day was a roaring success – with six sessions running back to back and over 130 gymnasts – and lots of adults! – trying out the new facilities for the first time. Robin (our new barista) was kept busy in the cafe, whilst the amazing team of coaches provided engaging, fun sessions in the gym.
As a ‘thank you’ to our wonderful team of coaches and helpers, Flipz took to the river in the evening with Ross on Wye Paddleboard, for a lovely relaxing (and a little bit nerve-wracking for some!) trip along the Wye.
Flipz would like to thank family, friends and their fabulous team for their unwavering support over the past few months…we couldn’t have achieved this without you all and we look forward to many happy years ahead in our lovely new home!
Thank you for all your support,
Flipz Team
Flipz Coaches take a well-deserved paddle!
Following the super-successful ‘Open Day’ of it’s new venue in Whitchurch, the Flipz team ventured into Ross for an evening of paddleboarding and picnicking, as a ‘thank you’ for all of their hard work!
A big ‘thank you’ to Danie and Nicola of Ross Paddleboarding who ensured that the time on the river was both fun and relaxing (and dry for most!)
Flipz is expanding!
Our current premises in Millpond Street, Ross on Wye has served us well for the past five years and has allowed us to slowly grow, but we are now looking to build upon this and expand further to bring our gymnasts a facility that will be able to offer:
- More than twice the floor area of our current gym
- New, exciting equipment
- A larger range of classes for school-aged children
- Pre-school classes
- Classes for schools
- The potential for ‘squad’ gymnastics
- More competitions / displays for our gymnasts and parents to enjoy
- Customer parking (with no busy road to cross)
- A more modern facility
- A comfortable waiting area
- A cafe serving a variety of drinks and snacks
Our new gym will be located in the village of Whitchurch – Unit 5A, Stoney Hill Estate, Whitchurch. HR9 6BX. More details will be posted here soon regarding the refurbishment and our exciting ‘Open Day’!
Flipz ‘bounces’ into 2024!
Flipz is proud to be a ‘small but perfectly formed’ gymnastics club for recreational gymnasts in Ross on Wye. We are always looking to expand our range of equipment for our gymnasts, so when a sprung floor came up for sale (just down the road in Hereford), we jumped at the opportunity to buy it for the club so that our gymnasts can fly higher and tumble faster!
It was a mammouth task removing the floor from Hereford Sparks and transporting it back to Ross to install in our Millpond Street site – we are really grateful to all helpers who assisted both in Hereford and back at Ross – what an amazing team!
We can’t wait to get back into the gym after the Christmas break and try it out!!
Coaches Christmas Celebrations 2023
Flipz celebrated the Festive period with two events for staff in 2023! Our Junior coaching team had fun recapturing their childhood days in Cheltenham’s Jumpin’ Fun – then off for lunch; whilst members of the senior coaching team enjoyed a more sedate evening Christmas meal.
Flipz would like to thank all of their amazing coaching team for working tirelessly to make Flipz a fun, challenging and positive experience for all of our gymnasts!
Would you like to join our friendly Flipz team?
Flipz Staff Training
In November our coaches attended a training day at the gym – thank you to them all for giving up their Saturday to do this (and a big thank you to the gymnast volunteers who came along on the day to help!)
Flipz Club Competition 2023
Week commencing 15/5/23 saw over 140 Flipz Gymnasts compete in Flipz’s 2nd Club Competition.
Running over 7 rounds, the competition ran smoothly and was hailed a great success! The coaches were incredibly proud of all gymnasts for performing their floor routines and vaults in front of an audience. Laura and Meg were really grateful to their wonderful team of coaches, judges and helpers – they did an amazing job!
Special thanks go to:
Tina for organising the catering for the day and baking a wonderful range of cakes and sweet goodies for the ‘Bake Sale’ which, along with the Raffle, raised almost £450.00 towards our ‘Sprung Floor Fund’.
‘All About the Olive Wood’ (https://allabouttheolivewood.co.uk/) for donating a beautiful wood and resin chopping board for the raffle
Judges – Millie, Immy, Lily, Meg and Cathy – for giving up their revision/sunbathing(!) time – they were exceptionally efficient and kept the day running to time
Coaches – Pippa, Holly, Lola, Florence, Amie, Amelia – you really helped to settle the nerves of the gymnasts and provide plenty of ‘high fives’
Latest Successes!
Well done to Willow for recently passing her Level 1 in WA Gymnastics and congratulations to Meg for passing her Level 1 Judging Course on Sunday!
Junior Coaches in training
A few weeks ago our junior coaches attended the Recreational Gymnastics Helper course at Wythall Gymnastics Club in Birmingham.
The course comprised a day in the gym with a British Gymnastics instructor and an online theory course.
They all had a great time and came back with new ideas and techniques that they will be applying to their coaching!
Well done girls and thank you!
